our story

The United Voice for Mortgage Brokers in British Columbia

The Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association – British Columbia (CMBA-BC) is proud to represent B.C.’s vibrant mortgage industry. Since our incorporation in 1990, we have served as the voice for mortgage brokers across the province, advocating for our members’ interests and concerns.

CMBA-BC offers a variety of educational and networking opportunities designed to help our members grow their skills, build valuable connections, and stay ahead in a competitive market. We collaborate with industry partners and regulators to ensure the integrity of the mortgage industry and to strengthen the role of brokers throughout the province.

Our Association is guided by an elected Board of Directors, with the assistance of committees and task groups made up of industry leaders. Under the leadership of CEO Carla Giles, MBA, CAE, our team is committed to executing the vision and strategy set by the Board while providing excellent support to our members. This is accomplished with the support of our Member Services Team.

Our history

A Legacy of Leadership

For 35+ years, CMBA-BC has championed a robust, ethical, and forward-thinking mortgage industry, serving as a leading voice for mortgage brokers in British Columbia and a catalyst for collaboration across Canada.

Originally incorporated as the Mortgage Brokers Association of BC (MBABC) in 1990, CMBA-BC has long played a leadership role within the profession. In 2015, CMBA-BC was instrumental in the formation of the Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association (CMBA National), adopting the CMBA National brand to support a unified national presence while remaining an independent, provincially governed association.

Today, CMBA-BC works closely with CMBA National and alongside its provincial counterparts: CMBA Ontario, CMBA Atlantic, and l’Association des courtiers hypothécaires du Québec (ACHQ), strengthening the profession nationwide and promoting the MB logo as a trusted mark of membership that signals to consumers that the best mortgage advice comes from a mortgage broker.

My favourite thing about being a member is the camaraderie and the ability to lean on colleagues for support and information and just grow as a broker. Everyone just wants to do the best for our clients.
